Storia di Reggio di Lombardia, 1796-1804.

The manuscript contains the chronicle of the city Reggio in Emilia during the Napoleonic conquest and rule in northern Italy from May 1796 to December 1804, with omission of the years 1798-1801. The frequent entries in 1796-1797 record the flight of Duke Ercole d'Este, the movements of troops, the installment of the republican government and the new Constitution, the skirmishes with Austrian corps, and the exciting "Avvisi," "Editti" and handbills issued from the local printing press.

Francesco Toschi belonged to an old, noble family that provided Reggio with jurists, writers, prelates and public servants.
